New to yoga? Want to try yoga for the first time? Then come to this 60 minute class that has the beginner in mind. Ranging from a gentle and therapeutic pace to a mildly vigorous practice, you will be calmly challenged and energized in this class. As you flow through powerful, graceful sequences the focus turns to building and engaging your strength and concentration. By moving slowly and holding postures for several breaths, you will build strength and increase flexibility through slow, focused movements, allowing your body to deepen into a stretch or pause in strengthening poses. This class is available to any RMYL member but is designed for someone brand new to yoga in mind.
Move in a special way! This is a dynamic, creative vinyasa class to explore how the shape of your body can shape how you breathe and perceive. Learn how to free yourself of what you think you can do and discover what’s truly possible! This class combines elements of vinyasa flow with the techniques of ayurvedic yoga therapy to create a unique experience to unite your breath, body and mind as one. This practice is to benefit students of all levels and abilities, to address the unique physical needs of the three “doshas” through breath and movement, and to cultivate the qualities of curiosity, courage and compassion on and off the mat.
A cardio and sculpting type of class. Think yoga, pilates, and barre all meshed together. Strength-training exercises such as squats, lunges, bicep curls and tricep curls are incorporated to build lean muscle mass. We may use light weights, resistance bands, and exercise balls. We will focus on strengthening our core, arms, and legs. All levels welcome.
A fluid, dynamic and invigorating vinyasa class designed for all levels. Sequencing is built around sun salutations and postures are linked to the breath to create a creative fun flow. Core work is incorporated to strengthen the body. Some arm balances and/or inversions may be suggested throughout the flow for those students who want an extra challenge. We will wind down the class with some yin exercises. These postures will allow muscles to relax. Flexibility and strength is achieved by stretching and holding poses for several minutes at a time, with the emphasis on releasing muscles rather than contracting them. The final moments of class will include savasana. All levels welcome and modifications will be given throughout the practice.
If you're interested in yoga but thought you weren't flexible enough or were afraid to jump into a class that moved to quickly, this class is for you! Restorative yoga is a low-impact form of yoga. Restorative yoga is a practice of “active relaxation” that allows you to find freedom, peace and ease in your body, mind and breath. Explore calming techniques to release tension held in your entire being through gentle supported movements, relaxing breathing techniques and subtle inner awareness. Give yourself the time to de-stress from a fast-pace modern life and tap into your “rest & digest” response—the parasympathetic nervous system—in order to slow down your mind, unwind your body, and experience the blissful space of stillness. The benefits of a restorative yoga practice are available for everyone!
